Since October 2009, DAWN has recognized its outstanding members as DAWNers of the Month for their leadership, expertise and dedication to community service. Read below to meet a few of our fantastic DAWNers!
October 2009 - Esraa Bani
Born in Khartoum, Sudan but growing up in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the U.S., Esraa is DAWN's Director of Development and works as an Advocacy Coordinator at Population Action International.
Esraa recently received an honorable mention in the Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn's Half The Sky Contest of the New York Times. Her entry, a blog about her personal experiences confronting female genital mutilation (FGM) was selected from over 700 entries and was published on the New York Times website.
She wrote the piece in honor of her mother who summoned up the courage to refuse to have Esraa and her sister cut when they were young girls. Today, inspired by her mother, Esraa is a passionate advocate of the eradication of FGM and mother to one year-old beautiful Fatima who she believes will carry on her grandmother's legacy.

November 2009 - Angelique Mutombo Davis
A native of Democratic Republic of Congo, Angelique Mutombo Davis is the Executive Director of the International Association of Black Professionals in International Affairs (BPIA), a charitable, non-profit membership association founded to increase the involvement of African Americans and other people of African heritage in international affairs.
As Executive Director, Cindy ensures that BPIA fulfills it objectives in education, cultural exchange, economic development, and professional development through public education forums and conferences, referrals, a newsletter, networking and outreach activities, and award of grants and scholarships.

December 2009 - Niemat Ahmadi
A native of North Darfur, Niemat Ahmadi is the Darfuri Liaison Officer with the Save Darfur Coalition. In this position she promotes cooperation between the coalition and the Darfuri diaspora within the United States and abroad, focusing in particular on the role of Darfuri women in the peace process.
Niemat is also a Founding Member of the Darfuri Leaders Network, a coalition of more than 20 domestic Darfuri organizations working to promote peace and security in Darfur. Niemat joined DAWN in 2007 and continues to remain active in the group.
