About DAWN
Founded in 2007, the Diaspora African Women's Network (DAWN) is a non-profit organization that serves as a global network for professional women of the African Diaspora focused on African affairs.
DAWN provides its members with special invitations and networking opportunities, job announcements and access to various voices and organizations focused on African affairs. In addition to maintaining an active listserv, DAWNers also host private monthly events , gatherings and dinners for its members in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area.
DAWNers are talented, passionate, inspirational and dynamic women from the African diaspora, hailing from various backgrounds and ethnicities. We are local leaders with global experiences who understand the importance of maintaining close ties with each other and extending support to our fellow sisters everywhere.
DAWNers represent nearly every professional field and academic background, from government and policy, to marketing and media, to health, business and the arts. Our members hail from over 24 African countries, as well as the Caribbean, Europe and the United States. We focus on what's most important in life -- family, friends, and having fun while working hard.
The mission of the Diaspora African Women's Network is to develop and support talented women and girls of the African diaspora focused on African affairs.
Goals::
• To provide leadership, mentorship and professional opportunities related to Africa
• To enhance the contributions of women and girls of the African diaspora focused on African affairs
• To promote community service projects in minority and immigrant neighborhoods
