DAWN Service Projects
As part of our mission, DAWN is committed to supporting local minority and immigrant communities of the African diaspora. DAWN regularly performs service projects throughout the year, under the guise and leadership of its own members.
DAWN Holiday Service Project 2011
DAWN partnered with the African Immigrant Refugee Foundation (AIRF) to fundraise for two African immigrant families AIRF identified as being in need. In less than a month, DAWN raised $325 for one family from Cameroon and another from the Democratic Republic of Congo, just in time for the new year! On Martin Luther King Service Day, DAWN presented the gift to the families at AIRF's Washington, DC office.

DAWN 2010 Holiday Clothing Drive
DAWN hosted its Second Annual Holiday Clothing Drivefor local African diaspora communities in the Washington Metropolitan area. This year, dwinter coats, sweaters, pants, gloves & hats were donated to the Ethiopian Community Development Center, Inc. (ECDC), a non-profit organization dedicated to resettling refugees and promoting cultural, educational, and socioeconomic development in the refugee and immigrant community in the United States. Considering the number of refugees & new families that arrive to the United States each year, and that many DAWNers hail from immigrant families themselves, we are humbled and honored to do what we can to help so many families in need this holiday season.
DAWN Breast Cancer Walk
DAWN participated in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk. DAWN's six-member cheerleading squad - Martha Haile, Nadine Kwezira, Karen Parker, Asmara Sium, Eddine Mureke, and Milen Zerabruk stayed through the rain and cheered on walkers and helped raise money for a great cause.
DAWN Hope for Haiti Campaign 2010
The DAWN Hope for Haiti Campaign is an initiative aimed at raising awareness about the developments and relief efforts in Haiti, finding ways you can help and providing you with opportunities and events to support Haiti's recovery.
DAWN wants to help you find the best way to help Haiti recover from the devastating earthquake. We have compiled a list of various humanitarian and relief organizations working hard on the ground in Haiti. It includes links to the latest updates and reports, resources for how to locate family and
loved ones, and ways you can help, including reasons why donating money is the best thing you can do.
